Team Profile

Dr. Helena Korjonen

I studied International Studies (BSc Hons) with emphasis on Geography and European studies, followed by Library, Archives and Information Studies (MA University College London). I completed a cross-disciplinary PhD (University College London) examining the information dissemination in clinical trials and making recommendations to improve transparency. I have worked on European public health matters in the civil service and defence sector, medical information in the pharmaceutical industry and in undertaking research in the clinical research and public health NGO sector.

My broad research interest is in sustainable development and its interconnection with public health, inequalities and social determinants. I’m interested in how the environment in which we live affects health and wellbeing of humans, animals and our ecosystems, and what the drivers and motivations are in forming our environment and healthy places, e.g. national and international politics, policy research, change behaviour insight, communication theory, information literacy, and information & technology developments.

My current areas of research are understanding the use of technology in diffusing information, enabling knowledge transfer and the uptake of information, e.g. how we best visualise information of a sustainable food system. I am also looking at the theories behind what does a sustainable food system look like, and what is the current foodscape of Luxembourg, e.g. utilising multi-disciplinary research methods in understanding a snapshot of our current situation to begin to analyse what needs to happen for a more sustainable food system.
