Îles de Paix Belgique: conseil scientifique sur des projets de développement agroécologiques
October 2019
Following the public defense of her doctoral thesis, Dr. Diane Kapgen was invited by Olivier Genard (Head of Programming, Support, Monitoring Unit at Îles de Paix) to provide scientific counsel in an exchange with the partners who direct the programs in Burkina Faso, Benin, Peru, Uganda and Tanzania. These are annual meetings between Îles de Paix Belgium and their southern partners.
Dr. Kapgen presented the conclusions drawn from her field study in Burkina Faso on the implementation of agroecological projects and discussed the methods of transmitting knowledge within the framework of programs that support small producers using an agroecological approach. With the representatives of the NGOs, a discussion on the risk of a reinforcement of inequalities within the communities, linked to a bad use of the “school in the fields” approach and the support to pilot farmers, then gave tracks to improve the impacts of such development projects.
